Foreign Office calls on Syrian Ambassador to ensure the Syrian Government protects diplomatic missions

Head of Near East and North African Department reiterated the UK’s condemnation of the attacks on the French and US Embassies in Damascus.

Foreign Office spokesperson said:

“The Syrian Ambassador, Dr Sami Khiyami, was today called to the Foreign Office over the attacks on the French and US Embassies in Damascus on Monday 11 July. Patrick Davies, the Head of Near East and North African Department reiterated the UK’s condemnation of these attacks. Mr Davies also condemned the Syrian government’s failure to fulfil its responsibility to protect diplomatic property and personnel under the Vienna Convention, which also guarantees the right of all diplomats to free movement. Mr Davies made clear that these were issues of direct concern for all diplomatic missions in Syria. “
