FCO Minister Hugo Swire

While the progress in Burma over the past two years has been dramatic, it remains fragile. The UK government is committed to helping support the progress in Burma and helping the Burmese people build a robust, free democracy. However, a lot of challenges continue and the government is very concerned about the ongoing tension in Rakhine State and Kachin State.

Foreign Office Minister Hugo Swire will answer your questions on the UK’s policy towards Burma live via Twitter on Wednesday 13 February from 1130 - 1215 GMT. You can submit questions using the hashtag #askFCO, and you can follow the Q&A on Mr Swire’s Twitter page @HugoSwire.

Following visits to Burma by the Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary over the last 18 months, as well the historic visit of Aung San Suu Kyi last summer, Hugo Swire recently visited Rakhine State to demonstrate that the UK is committed to engaging with every area of Burma.
