Dean of Ripon: Reverend Canon John Richard Dobson

The Queen has approved the nomination of the Reverend Canon John Richard Dobson.

The Queen has approved the nomination of the Reverend Canon John Richard Dobson, BA, Vicar of Blackwell All Saints’ and Salutation, Priest-in-Charge of Coniscliffe, Area Dean of Darlington and Honorary Canon of Durham Cathedral, to be appointed to the Deanery of the Cathedral Church of Saint Peter and Saint Wilfrid, Ripon, on the death of the Very Reverend Keith Michael Jukes, BA.

Reverend Canon John Richard Dobson

The Reverend Canon John Dobson (aged 49) was educated at Van Mildert College, Durham and he trained for his ordination at Ripon College, Cuddesdon. He served his first curacy at Benfieldside in the diocese of Durham from 1989 to1992, and then was curate at Saint Cuthbert Darlington from 1992 to 1996. From 1996 to 1998 he was Clerk in Charge at Blackwell All Saints’ and Salutation Conventional District and since 1998 has been Vicar.

Since 2004 he has been Priest-in-Charge at Coniscliffe. From 2001 he has been Area Dean of Darlington and Honorary Canon of Durham Cathedral since 2008. He has served as Chair of the House of Clergy of Durham Diocesan Synod since 2009 and chaired the Durham Diocesan Church Growth Enabling Group and the Durham Diocesan Office Development Group.

John Dobson is married to Nicola, head teacher of a Church of England (aided) primary school within the diocese of Ripon and Leeds, and they have 2 children; James (19) and Jessica (16). His interests, in addition to church growth and the church’s engagement with society, include walking, golf, bell ringing and wine tasting.
