Changes to notarial services in Italy

As of 1 April notarial and documentary services will no longer be offered by British Consular offices in Italy

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government
British Embassy in Rome

The changes will apply to the cases where they can be performed by an alternative provider, e.g. a British-registered lawyer practising in Italy, or an Italian notary able to deal with UK documents.

All remaining services will be centralised at the Consular Section of the British Embassy Rome. This will include marriage documentation for British nationals who are resident in Italy who are required to publish notice of marriage in a British Consulate.

The British Consulate-General in Milan will no longer offer any form of notarial or documentary service.

The key benefit of the above changes is to modernise the delivery of Consular Services and to focus resources where there is the most need, for example, assisting vulnerable British nationals in trouble in Italy.
