Change of Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Brazil

Mr Alex Ellis has been appointed Her Majesty's Ambassador to the Federative Republic of Brazil.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

He will succeed Mr Alan Charlton CMG, CVO. Mr Ellis will take up his appointment in July 2013.

Mr Ellis joined the FCO in 1990 and has worked on EU and global issues both in the FCO, most recently as Director of Strategy, and in the private office of the President of the European Commission. He speaks fluent Portuguese.

On his appointment as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Federative Republic of Brazil, Mr Ellis has said:

“It will be an honour to work for the United Kingdom in one of the biggest, most dynamic and diverse countries in the world, and especially when it will be the centre of global attention as it hosts the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games, following on from the 2012 London Olympics.”
