British Government calls for fair and transparent review of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani's sentence

Following reports that Iranian State TV will air a programme tonight in which Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani reconstructs her alleged crime, the Foreign Office has issued a statement.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

“We are deeply troubled by these reports. The parading of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani on State TV for propaganda purposes raises further concerns about the lack of due process in this case. The British Government will continue to press for a fair and transparent review of her sentence. The UK opposes the death penalty in all circumstances.”
