British Embassy Bangkok and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) work together towards a prosperous future for the city
The British Embassy Bangkok and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) signed a Letter of Intent on the Prosperity Fund Future Cities Programme at the British Ambassador’s Residence.
Mr Brian Davidson, British Ambassador to Thailand, said:
The Prosperity Fund Future Cities Programme was launched by the UK government and aims to address challenges of rapid urbanisation. It supports sustainable development and promotes inclusive affluence which will, in turn, alleviate poverty. The programme is being implemented in 19 emerging ‘megacities’ across 4 different continents globally. Bangkok has been recognised as one of these ‘megacities’.
Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, by signing the Letter of Intent, has confirmed its commitment to creating mutual partnerships, growing business and trading opportunities in Bangkok. It also shows that they are ready to plan and deliver ambitious plans for the city. Bangkok has a prosperous future ahead.

Kingdom of Thailand and the United Kingdom have long relationship on trade since Ayudhaya era when the diplomatic relations were established on 18 April 1855 (B.E. 2398) or 163 years ago. Thailand and the UK have long standing relationships and friendships. Signing of the Letter of Intent for strategic partnerships today coming to an understanding on implementation of the Prosperity Fund Future Cities Programme show co-operations between the two countries in preparation for the cities self-development and sustainable economic growth readiness to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to enter the fifth century together on the basis of good friendships. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration would like to thank the UK government and the British Embassy Bangkok for recognition the potential and readiness for Bangkok and selected for 1 of the 19 megacities to participate in this programme. This would help the BMA to work effectively and most benefit to people in the cities, regional and international level.
