Animal Medicine Seizure Notice issued to David Holt of Manchester
Seizure notice served as part of an investigation by Defra Investigation Services (DIS) at residential premises in Manchester, March 2023.
This notice is published following the conclusion of an investigation case in which the following products were seized by Defra Investigation Services (DIS).
The investigation was regarding the supply of unauthorised veterinary medicines for use in dogs.
- 1 blister pack, containing 8 Drontal Plus Tablets
- 1 tray containing 25 doses of Vangaurd HTLP5/CV-L Canine Distemper Vaccine
- 2 part used and 2 unused 10ml bottles Oxytocin
- 1 un-opened tub Prednisolone 5mg tablets
- 1 un-opened box containing 100ml bottle Coxzuril 2.5%
- 1 part used 20ml bottle Aurimic Ear Drops and Cutaneous Suspension for Dogs and Cats
- 1 part used 30ml bottle Surolan Ear Drops and Cutaneous Suspension
- 1 x 25ml part used bottle Canaural Ear Drops, Suspension for Dogs and Cats
- 1 un-opened box containing 500ml bottle Becosol (Dextrose with Vitamins) and an IV line
- 2 empty boxes Cephalex 250mg ‘Broad Spectrum Antibiotic’ 100 tablets
- 1 part used 3.5g tube Maxitrol Eye Ointment
These products included GB veterinary medicines (including POM-V), non-GB veterinary medicines and human medicines.
The veterinary medicines were labelled for both companion animals and food producing species and included antibiotics, vaccines and wormers.
These products were intended for use in dogs.
Details of the offences:
Unauthorised possession of POM-V veterinary medicines are offences under Regulation 7 (Classification, supply and possession of the product) of the VMR.
Non-GB veterinary product can only be administered to animals under Schedule 4 (Administration of a veterinary medicinal product outside the terms of a marketing authorisation) of the VMR by vets who have the animals under their care and have obtained a Special Import Certificate (SIC) to obtain the product.
The importation and possession of these products is an offence under Regulation 25 (Importation of an unauthorised veterinary medicinal product) and Regulation 26 (Possession of an unauthorised veterinary medicinal product)of the VMR. The administration of the product is an offence under Regulation 8 (Administration of the product) of the VMR.
Human medicines can only be administered to animals if prescribed under Schedule 4 (Administration of a veterinary medicinal product outside the terms of a marketing authorisation) of the VMR by vets who have the animals under their care. The supply of a human product for administration to an animal, without a vet’s prescription, is an offence under Regulation 7 (Classification, supply and possession of the product) of the VMR.
