It is with sincere regret that the Embassy has learnt of the death of Kurt D Brühl CBE, long-serving British Honorary Consul in Graz. Consul Brühl passed away on Thursday 27 March, at the age of 84.

Kurt Brühl served as Honorary Consul for over 30 years, running the office from his department store in Graz. He was appointed Honorary Consul to Styria in 1982, and his role was later extended to also cover Carinthia in 1985. Often involved in British cultural events in Graz and Vienna, Mr Brühl was also instrumental in a ministerial visit in 2003 and in the visit of HRH the Duke of Kent in 2005. For his hard work and service, Mr Brühl received an honorary CBE at a ceremony in Vienna in 2002.

The role will now be filled by his daughter, Mrs Eva Brühl , the present Honorary Vice Consul of the HC Graz.

Ambassador Susan le Jeune d’Allegeershecque said:

Our thoughts are with Consul Brühl’s family and friends.
