Alistair Burt meets Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon

The meeting was the first in a series of calls on Israeli officials that the Minister will be making during his four day visit.

British Foreign Office Minister for the Middle East Alistair Burt MP met Israel’s Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon at the start of his second visit to Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories this year. Minister Burt last visited the region in January.

The two discussed the ongoing events in the region, as well as the situation between Israel and the Palestinians. Minister Burt stressed the need for Israel and the Palestinians to restart peace talks as quickly as possible.

In addition, Minister Burt will meet Noam and Aviva Shalit, the parents of kidnapped Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit who has been held in the Gaza Strip for five years. He is also due to visit Hadasit, the Technology Transfer Company of Hadassah Medical Organization (HMO) at the Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem.

In the Occupied Territories, the Minister will visit the West Bank and meet Palestinian officials and business leaders.
