A reminder about the Multiple Sclerosis risk sharing scheme

NHS reminded about the MS risk sharing scheme.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

The published multiple sclerosis (MS) risk sharing scheme letter reminds the NHS about the scheme and the legal obligation to comply with it.

The NHS should be aware that a direction from the Secretary of State is in force which covers the Scheme.   Received feedback indicates that some NHS bodies may have lost sight of the legal obligation and are moving eligible patients on to drugs outside the scheme on cost grounds.  Patients prescribed scheme drugs should not be taken off them unless there are clinical reasons why their prescription should be changed.

The MS risk sharing scheme started in 2002 and the Health Service Circular 2002/004 outlines details.
