60 Dog Vaccines Seized

Unauthorised veterinary medicines seized at a postal depot in Belfast.

A package containing non-UK prescription only veterinary medicine was identified by a courier company based at a depot in Belfast.

The package arrived from India containing medicine destined for an address in Belfast.

The medicine was detained and subsequently seized by an inspector from DAERA (Department of Agriculture Environment & Rural Affairs) in Northern Ireland.

The following medicines were seized:  

  • 1 container holding 1000 Prednisolone tablets for dogs
  • 2 containers of 25 vials of Zoetis’s Vangard Plus 5 vaccine for dogs
  • 2 containers of 5 vials of Nobivac KC live vaccine for dogs

Vanguard® Plus 5/CV-L is for the vaccination aid in preventing canine distemper, infectious canine hepatitis (ICH), canine parvoviral enteritis, corona viral enteritis and leptospirosis.

Nobivac KC is a live freeze dried vaccine against Bordetella bronchiseptica and canine parainfluenza virus.

These products were intended for use in dogs and require a prescription from a veterinary surgeon.

None of the products listed are authorised for use in GB or NI and were not accompanied by any relevant certification to permit their import.

The medicines were seized under Regulation 25 (Importation of unauthorised veterinary medicinal products) of the Veterinary Medicines Regulations 2013.
