The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 14 October but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M1 junction 32 to 35a, Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire/Yorkshire: smart motorway

Until winter 2016, there will be various restrictions in place on the M1 between junctions 32 and 35a to allow for the construction of the smart motorway. These include lane closures, speed restrictions, hard shoulder running and overnight slip road or carriageway closures.

The following closures are scheduled to take place:

  • Monday 17 October, the northbound up and over at junction 34 will be closed overnight from 8pm until 6am - In addition, the southbound exit slip road at junction 31 and the southbound entry slip road at junction 35a will be closed at the same time
  • Tuesday 18 October, the northbound up and over at junction 34 will be closed overnight from 8pm until 6am as well as the southbound entry and exit slip roads at junction 35
  • Wednesday 19 October, the northbound up and over at junction 35 and the northbound exit slip road at junction 35a will be closed overnight from 8pm until 6am
  • Thursday 20 October, the northbound up and over at junction 35 and the southbound entry slip road at junction 35a will be closed overnight from 8pm until 6am
  • Friday 21 October, the southbound exit slip road at junction 35 will be closed overnight from 8pm until 6am. M1 junction 19 to 16, Northamptonshire: smart motorway

From Monday 17 October to Saturday 22 October, the southbound carriageway will have two lanes closed between junctions 16 and 19 from 9pm to 6am. From Saturday 22 October to Sunday 23 October the southbound carriageway will be fully closed between junctions 16 and 18, with two lanes closed between junctions 18 and 19. At the same time southbound the Watford Gap entry and exit slip roads will be closed, as well as the exit slip at junction 16 and the entry slip at junction 18.

Elsewhere, from Monday 17 October to Saturday 22 October, the northbound carriageway will have two lanes closed between junctions 16 and 19 between 9pm and 6am. From Saturday 22 October to Sunday 23 October the northbound carriageway will be fully closed between junctions 16 and 18, with two lanes closed between junctions 18 and 19. At the same time the northbound Watford Gap entry and exit slip roads will be closed, as well as the exit slip at junction 16 and the entry slip at junction 18.

From Saturday 22 October to Sunday 23 October the east and westbound M45 will be closed.

M1 junction 19, Leicestershire: road improvement scheme

From Monday 17 to Friday 21 October, the A14 eastbound from Catthorpe junction to junction 1 and the A14 westbound from junction two to Catthorpe junction, will be closed overnight between 8pm and 6am.

On Monday 17 October and Tuesday 18 October, the M6 southbound from junction 1, including the slip road for A14 traffic, lane one of the M1 southbound, the M1 to A14 link road and lane one of the M6 northbound, will be closed overnight between 9pm and 6am.

From Wednesday 19 October to Friday 21 October, both lane three of the M6 southbound and the M6 to A14 link road and both lane one of the M1 southbound and the M1 to A14 link road, will be closed overnight between 9pm and 6am.

On Wednesday 19 October lane one of the M6 northbound will be closed overnight between 9pm and 6am.

A42, Leicestershire: carriageway repairs

Work will be taking place on the A42 from junction 13 (Ashby-de-la-Zouch) to the M1 junction at 23a (Castle Donington and East Midlands Airport).

To complete the scheme, full carriageway closures will be required along with slip roads, with the following working hours:

  • from 9pm to 6am on weeknights (Monday to Friday)
  • from 9pm on Friday to 12am on Saturday and from 8pm on Saturday evening through to 12am on Sunday for extended overnight shifts

As part of the scheme, lay-bys along the work area will be fully closed, 24 hours a day, during the project. This will help maintain safety and prevent parked vehicles causing disruption to the work programme.
