Minister of State for Defence Personnel, Welfare and Veterans
Responsibilities
The current minister for veterans is the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State and Minister for Defence People and Veterans.
The Minister of State for Defence Personnel, Welfare and Veterans was responsible for the Armed Forces Covenant, legal matters, Defence Infrastructure Organisation (including delivery of the basing strategy), civilian personnel, cadets, veterans and service families.
Priority areas were:
- the Armed Forces Covenant
- defence infrastructure and delivery of the basing strategy
- reform of the service justice/complaints process
- cadets and veterans
- armed forces personnel policy and issues
Other responsibilities included:
- public inquiries, inquests and service inquiries policy and casework
- service charities
- climate change, environmental issues and PEX(ER) lead
- medical services
- Armed Forces Compensation Scheme
- MDP, DVA
- civilian personnel
