Consultation description

This consultation runs until Tuesday 22 April 2014.

Each draft code has a covering note and detailed table outlining the changes and their purpose with links to the paragraphs concerned. For each code, there is also a revised version of the associated notice of rights and entitlements which must be given to detained persons and the revised notices also form part of this consultation.

The changes are being made in order to implement EU Directive 2012/13 on the right to information in criminal proceedings. in UK law by 2 June 2014. It lays down common minimum standards for the information to be given to suspected or accused persons about their rights and the accusation. In order to implement the directive, changes to Codes C and H and to the associated notices are required.
