Consultation description

The CMA has announced it is conducting a review of the competition concurrency arrangements. These are the arrangements in which the CMA and sector regulators share certain competition powers.

The CMA has launched this review with a call for inputs, seeking views on the effectiveness of the concurrency arrangements. The call for inputs document includes further detail on the specific issues on which we would be grateful for responses.

If you have any questions about the review, or would like a discussion with the CMA before submitting a response, contact the concurrency review team.

The effectiveness of the competition concurrency arrangements – a roundtable discussion

The CMA is hosting a roundtable meeting as part of its ongoing review of the effectiveness of the competition concurrency arrangements, under which responsibility for the promotion of competition in the regulated sectors is shared between the sector regulators and the CMA.

Location: The Cabot, Canary Wharf, London, and online via Microsoft Teams.

Date: Tuesday 16th of January 2024, 10:00 – 11:30am.

About this event:

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is carrying out a review of the competition concurrency arrangements, under which responsibility for the promotion of competition in the regulated sectors is shared between the sector regulators and the CMA, and arrangements are in place for cooperation between the regulators and the CMA in the exercise of their shared powers to apply competition law.

The review was launched as we approach the 10th anniversary of a series of reforms to enhance the concurrency arrangements.  In August, we published a call for inputs inviting views on the effectiveness of the concurrency arrangements.

We are hosting this roundtable discussion on 16th of January 2024 to provide a more informal means for stakeholders to provide views.

At the roundtable, we would be interested in hearing a diverse set of perspectives on the operation and effectiveness of concurrency.

We are interested in hearing from consumers, consumer groups, trade associations, firms operating in the regulated sectors, investors, academics and legal, economic or other professional advisers.
