Consultation description

This consultation sought views on the government’s proposals to specify contractual arrangements to be used by the police service to procure equipment and services.

This is in line with the approach to procurement set out in policing in the 21st century: reconnecting the police and the people, a consultation published on 26 July 2010, and in the strategy on police value for money.

A previous consultation in 2010 obtaining better value for money from police procurement sought views on proposals for the first such Regulations. A response document for that consultation, and an impact assessment were published in February 2011 and, at the same time the Police Act 1996 (Equipment) Regulations 2011 were made. They came into force on 4 March 2011.

This consultation covered amendments to add additional categories to the Police Act 1996 (Equipment) Regulations 2011 and new Regulations covering some services.
