Detail of outcome

Between March 2021 and May 2021, the Department for Education launched a public consultation seeking views on the proposed changes to the subject content for French, German and Spanish GCSEs.

Following the analysis of 1,644 responses, as well as engaging further with the sector, the government has now published its response to the consultation, setting out its decisions and confirmed changes to the subject content.

Ofqual has published its response to their parallel consultation which presents the outcomes in relation to the assessment arrangements for the revised GCSE in French, German and Spanish.

We have published Subject content for French, German and Spanish GCSEs for first teaching from September 2024 and first examinations from summer 2026.
