The draft Environment (Principles and Governance) Bill 2018 was published on 19 December 2018.

Detail of feedback received

The European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018 requires that the government publish a draft Bill containing provisions on environmental principles and the establishment of a new environmental authority by 26 December 2018.

We are working towards publishing the consultation response in tandem with the draft Bill before this deadline.

We want to know what you think about plans to create a new independent environmental watchdog. What functions and powers should the watchdog have to oversee environmental law and policy?

We’re also seeking views on what environmental principles we should apply in England to guide and shape environmental law and policy making.
