Detail of outcome
The consultation has identified no areas of EN-7 which are unworkable, unfit for purpose, or lacking in broad support from stakeholders. This has resulted in no material amendments being made to EN-7.
We have published the draft National Policy Statement for nuclear energy generation (EN-7), which will be designated and come into force after a 21-sitting day consideration period.
To support the requests for additional information and guidance, we will publish a Supplementary Information document alongside the new EN-7 document shortly, to aid developers navigating the planning framework.
Detail of feedback received
We received 77 responses to the consultation from:
- nuclear / energy industry bodies and experts
- non-government organisations
- members of the general public
- environmental advocates
- local authorities
- statutory consultees
Overall, respondents agreed that the criteria and scope outlined in EN-7 were appropriate and workable, but that additional information and guidance would be beneficial for developers navigating the Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIP) regime.
Relevant responses to this consultation will continue to be considered ahead of the next review of EN-7.

Consultation description
We’re consulting on the draft of the new nuclear National Policy Statement (NPS) EN-7, following the previous consultation on a proposed approach to siting new nuclear power stations beyond 2025 which ran from January to March 2024.
The consultation document contains the government response to the previous consultation, and the policy proposals the government intends to take forward in EN-7.
The proposed NPS will be applicable to nuclear power stations expected to deploy beyond 2025.
