Consultation description

The Department for Education is seeking views on the draft acoustic performance standards for schools.

The standards ensure that teaching and learning activities can be clearly heard and prevent disturbance from outside noise. They will replace those given in Building Bulletin 93, Acoustic Design of Schools, published in 2003.

The standards ensure schools comply with the acoustic requirements of the following regulations:

  • The Building Regulations
  • The School Premises Regulations 2012
  • The Independent Schools Standards 2013
