UK armed forces mental health annual statistics: index

Statistical information on mental health among the UK armed forces.

Following an internal review of this report, to ensure the content is relevant to the way mental health care is delivered in Defence today and focused on user needs, the following tables and figures providing information on specialist mental health care will be removed from the 2025/26 publication:

  • Figures: 1a, 4, 5, 6a, 8, 12, 13, 14, 15
  • Table 2a
  • Annex: E and G

The removed tables and figures remain available in previously published UK Armed Forces Mental Health bulletins.

Following a public consultation between June to July 2017, production of the episode tables in this publication will cease.

The video below provides an explanation of rate ratios and their use in the annual UK armed forces mental health report. The publication provides statistics on initial assessments for a new episode of care of service personnel at MOD Specialist Mental Health Services. The rate ratios have been used to determine if previous deployment to Iraq and/or Afghanistan was a risk factor
