Statistics on civilian search and rescue helicopter (SARH) taskings, with breakdowns by tasking category, location, location type (land, maritime or coast) and helicopter base. The data are derived from information recorded by the Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre (ARCC), who are responsible for the co-ordination of search and rescue helicopters.
Currently these statistics are labelled as ‘experimental’ statistics, as until now they have been considered to be in a testing phase. However, we are now confident that the underlying data are fit for purpose, and that the statistics meet user needs sufficiently. Therefore, we intend to remove the experimental designation of these statistics, starting with the next release in June. We are currently in the process of assessing the compliance of the statistics with the Code of Practice for Official Statistics, which could result in the designation as National Statistics in future.
As part of this process, we carried out a short survey, which allowed us to assess how well the statistics are meeting user needs, get an insight to user views on proposed changes and any suggestions for how the statistics could be improved. Visit our guidance page to see the summary of the user survey and our response to user feedback.
Information about data sources, validation and verification of the data, and definition can be found in the statistical releases. Further information about these statistics can be found in the guidance page, including information about the quality of these statistics, details of previous changes made, response to user feedback and the pre-release access list.
