Pension Credit is extra money for pensioners to bring their weekly income up to a minimum amount.
Proposed changes to Pension Credit Applications and Awards statistics
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is seeking views from users on our plans to reduce the frequency and timeliness of regular statistics on Pension Credit Applications and Awards.
These statistics were first published given the public interest in Pension Credit claims following the changes which linked Winter Fuel Payments (in England and Wales) and Pension Age Winter Heating Payments (in Scotland) to receipt of Pension Credit or other qualifying benefits for Winter 2024 to 2025.
In light of subsequent changes from Winter 2025 to 2026 which mean that Winter Fuel Payments and Pension Age Winter Heating Payments will be made to all pensioners and not linked to receipt of Pension Credit, there is a reduced requirement to publish these statistics on a quarterly basis.
In addition, the inclusion of the geographic breakdown of these statistics has significantly increased the production time for these statistics and the risk of delays to publication.
DWP plans to reduce the frequency of these statistics from quarterly to annually and reduce the timeliness of these statistics from information up to the week prior to publication, to information up to the end of the month prior to publication. This will maintain the quality and availability of this information for users.
We are unable to confirm the timing of an annual release at this time. Views on the frequency and timing of when these statistics should be released in future are appreciated.
