Digital Sector Economic Estimates: Gross Value Added (GVA)
This series brings together the most up to date Digital Sector Gross Value Added (GVA) datasets.
About
This page contains estimates of Digital Sector GVA, providing a measure of the contribution made by the Digital Sector and its subsectors to the UK economy.
Included estimates:
Previously, DSIT published 3 separate series of GVA releases (past releases produced by DSIT can be found on this page):
- annual GVA, based on data from ONS including balanced GVA estimates from the National Accounts.
- monthly GVA (and the associated annual estimates based on monthly GVA), based on data from ONS including monthly GDP indexes.
- regional GVA, based on data from ONS and the Digital Sector annual GVA publication.
Following the recommendations from our consultation, DSIT is now publishing one consolidated data series providing estimates of:
- annual GVA (including regional GVA analysis), based on data from ONS including balanced GVA estimates from the National Accounts. This is our most robust method of estimating GVA and has been badged as accredited official statistics. The regional component of this release provides annual estimates of GVA by the UK regions and devolved administrations.
These releases will be a continuation of our annual GVA release series and will be located in the annual GVA collection below.
For information on how these estimates are produced please see the relevant technical report included as part of each release.
In releases before April 2024, figures for the Digital Sector (and its subsectors, including Telecommunications) were produced by DCMS as part of their DCMS Sectors Economic Estimates series.
DSIT have recently concluded a consultation on the planned future of the Digital Sector Economic Estimates series - the DSIT response to this consultation can be accessed using this link.

The most recent annual GVA release “Economic Estimates: Digital Sector Annual (2010 to 2024) and Regional (2010 to 2022) Gross Value Added” does not include provisional estimates of regional Digital Sector GVA for 2023. These have not been included as we have judged that the risk of revisions substantially changing the narrative outweighs the value in publishing provisional estimates - please see the relevant technical report for more detail.
We instead plan to provide revised regional figures for 2023 once they become available - our release calendar will be updated in due course with the provisional date for that release (likely Summer 2026).
Digital Sector Economic Estimates, Annual GVA
Available from: 2019 - 2024. From February 2026, this series also includes analysis of regional GVA.
Digital Sector Economic Estimates, Regional GVA
Available from: 2019 - 2022. From February 2026 onwards, Regional GVA analysis is included within the Annual GVA series of releases.
Digital Sector Economic Estimates, Monthly GVA
Available from: Jan 2019 - Jun 2024. As detailed in our consultation, this series is a legacy series that is no longer planned to be updated.
