Competition, investment and scale-ups
Competition and Markets Authority's (CMA) work to explore the relationship between competition, investment and scale-ups in the UK.
The CMA is carrying out a programme of work to explore how competition can unlock investment and help firms to scale up in the UK.
On 10 September, Chief Executive Sarah Cardell spoke at the British Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (BVCA) Summit 2025. Her speech sets out how the CMA is supporting the UK government’s economic growth mission.
We have also published a:
- policy discussion paper that explores the role of competition policy in supporting UK scale-ups
- review of the existing literature on the relationship between investment and competition over a business’ lifecycle, by our Microeconomics Unit
As part of this work, we will engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including through sector-focused roundtables and our Growth and Investment Council.
