You cannot use this service if you live in Northern Ireland. You’ll get a reminder by post 7 weeks before your MOT is due.
Get MOT reminders
You’ll get a reminder:
- one month before your car, van or motorcycle MOT is due
- 2 months before your lorry, bus or large trailer MOT is due
To sign up, you’ll need:
- the vehicle’s number plate (registration number)
- a mobile number or email address
You can be fined up to £1,000 for driving a vehicle without a valid MOT.

You can check when your next reminder is due or unsubscribe to stop getting reminders.

View or stop your MOT reminders.
When to stop your reminders
You have to unsubscribe to stop getting reminders for a vehicle you’ve:
- sold
- transferred to someone else
- scrapped or written-off
- registered as off the road
Other ways to stop MOT reminders
You can also unsubscribe by:
- following the instructions in the text message you received
- clicking the unsubscribe link in the email you’ve been sent
You’ll pay the cost of a standard text message to unsubscribe from text reminders.
Check if a vehicle has a safety recall
Your reminder might tell you if your vehicle has been recalled for a safety reason. This depends on the manufacturer. You can also check if a vehicle model, part or accessory has been recalled.
