1. Consent to be designated

To supply alcohol, provide regulated entertainment or to provide late night refreshment from any premises within Newport City Council's administrative district, you need a premises licence from Newport City Council (the Licensing Authority).

An application to vary a Premises Licence to specify an individual as premises supervisor, must be accompanied by the consent of that person.

2. Interim authority notice

To supply alcohol, provide regulated entertainment or to provide late night refreshment from any premises within Newport City Council's administrative district, you need a premises licence from Newport City Council (the Licensing Authority).

Where a Premises Licence lapses due to death, incapacity or insolvency of the Licence holder, an interim authority notice may be given by certain persons with an interest in the premises, with 7 days of the lapsing of the Licence.

3. Application to transfer premises licence

Once granted, a Premises Licence may be transferred.

4. Application to vary a premises licence to specify an individual as designated premises supervisor

To supply alcohol, provide regulated entertainment or to provide late night refreshment from any premises within Newport City Council's administrative district, you need a premises licence from Newport City Council (the Licensing Authority).

Where the Licence authorises the supply of alcohol, a premises supervisor must be named on the Licence. This individual may be changed by varying the Licence to specify a different individual as the premises supervisor.

5. Application for a minor variation to a premises or club certificate

To supply alcohol, provide regulated entertainment or to provide late night refreshment from any premises within Newport City Council's administrative district, you need a premises licence from Newport City Council (the Licensing Authority).

The minor variations process in the simplest way to make changes to the Premises Licence.However, it can only be used for variations that could have no adverse impact on the promotion of any of the four licensing objectives.
Additionally, it cannot be used to:
• extend the period for which the Licence has effect;
• add the sale by retail or supply of alcohol as an activity authorised by a Licence;
• authorise the supply of alcohol at any time between 11pm and 7am; or
• authorise an increase in the amount of time on any day during which alcohol may be supplied.

6. Application to vary a premises licence

To supply alcohol, provide regulated entertainment or to provide late night refreshment from any premises within Newport City Council's administrative district, you need a premises licence from Newport City Council (the Licensing Authority).Once granted, a Premises Licence may be varied. This may be to vary the hours authorised by the Premises Licence for certain activities, to include new activities in the scope of the Licence, or to vary the plans attached to the Licence.
However, the Premises Licence may not be varied to substantially change the premises to which it relates, or to extend the time period during which the Licence has effect.

7. Notification of an interest in premises under section 178

A person with a property interest in any premises that is situated within Newport City Council's administrative district and in respect of which a Premises Licence has effect, may give notice of his interest to Newport City Council.

9. Consent to transfer

Where an application to transfer a Premises Licence is made, it should be accompanied by the consent of the existing Licence holder to transfer the Licence.

10. Request to be removed as designated premises supervisor

To supply alcohol, provide regulated entertainment or to provide late night refreshment from any premises within Newport City Council's administrative district, you need a premises licence from Newport City Council (the Licensing Authority).If a person who is named as premises supervisor on a Licence no longer wishes to be such, they may notify Newport City Council (the Licensing Authority). The DPS must also notify the Licence holder and request that they return the Licence to Newport City Council (the Licensing Authority).
