Return the fine and any correspondence to the organisation that issued it. Tell them you don’t own the vehicle and that you’re contacting DVLA. Write to DVLA to tell them what’s happening. Give as much detail as you can and keep a copy of anything you send.

If you have previously owned the vehicle, in your letter to DVLA you should include:

  • the vehicle registration number, make and model
  • the exact date of sale or transfer if you used to own the vehicle - and the name and address of the person you sold or transferred it to

If you’ve never owned the vehicle, explain this in your letter and give as much information as possible.
