Get a refund of your immigration health surcharge

Check if you can get a full or partial refund for the immigration health surcharge (IHS). 

Check if you will get a refund automatically

You do not need to contact UKVI to get a refund if: 

  • you cancelled your application 

  • your application was refused 

  • you paid twice for the same period – for example, when extending or switching your visa 

  • you got less time on your visa than you applied for 

It will be automatically paid to the account or card you paid with. This can take up to 6 weeks. 

If someone else paid the IHS on your behalf, they will get the IHS refund.
