The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is assessing whether Aldi and/or Lidl meet the criteria to be designated as a Large Grocery Retailer under the Groceries Market Investigation (Controlled Land) Order 2010.

Provisional decisions report
7 August 2026: The CMA has published its provisional decisions report regarding the potential designation of Aldi and Lidl under the Groceries Market Investigation (Controlled Land) Order 2010. The report sets out the CMA’s provisional decision to designate each of Aldi Stores Limited, Lidl Great Britain Limited and Lidl Northern Ireland Limited as Large Grocery Retailers under the Order.
