AAIB investigation to Reims Cessna FA152 Aerobat, G-FLIP

Bounced landing followed by nose gear collapse, Rochester Airport, 22 July 2015.

Summary:

The student pilot had successfully completed five circuits with his instructor at Rochester Airport from Runway 20, amounting to approximately 55 minutes of flight. The fifth circuit ended with a full stop landing after which the instructor briefed the student for his first solo circuit.

The reported wind was from 240º at 15 kt and the student considered that the approach to Runway 20 was normal. During touchdown, the aircraft bounced to approximately three feet in a level attitude, after which it touched down again and the nose landing gear collapsed. The aircraft skidded to a halt on its nose and left wing. The pilot, who was wearing a full harness, was uninjured.
