Approximately eight minutes into a cross-country flight there was a catastrophic engine failure. At a height of approximately 800 ft agl the pilot successfully operated the aircraft’s parachute recovery system and the aircraft descended into a field near the village of Benington. The engine failure most probably occurred because of an insufficient quantity of oil.
