General information

The British diplomatic presence in the Czech Republic consists of the British Embassy in Prague. Staff at the mission fall into two groups:

  • UK-based staff: career diplomatic staff, employed directly by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) in London, and sent to work at posts abroad for periods of 3-5 years.

  • Locally employed staff: local residents, employed in accordance with local employment law and practices.

Vacancies for local staff employed directly by the British Embassy in Prague are rare. When positions become available, they are always listed on our website. Please keep checking this page for the latest additions.

Please be aware that there are limited opportunities for promotion or progression, however, staff are encouraged to apply for other vacancies within the Embassy as they arise.

All applicants must have a high level of spoken and written English (unless stated otherwise) and for most positions an additional fluency in Czech will be required.

The Embassy will consider all applications and invite a selection of candidates for interview. All invited candidates can expect a competency-based interview conducted in English by a panel of embassy staff. During the interview, candidates will be asked about their work experience, career history and skills. Interviews may also include a short practical exercise testing specific skills required for each role.

Internships

The Embassy occasionally offers internships which are advertised below. This opportunity is for students and recent graduates who are local residents.

Students at UK universities who are British nationals and are considering a career in the Diplomatic Service can apply to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office in London for a placement under the FCDO placement scheme or a variety of other schemes run by other government departments.
