Pay the Dartford Crossing charge (Dart Charge)

2. Charges and fines

You must pay the charge if you use the Dartford Crossing between 6am and 10pm. Charges apply every day - including weekends and bank holidays.

How much you pay to cross depends on the type of vehicle you’re driving and if you already have an account.

Cars and motorcycles

Count droppable axles whether they’re up or down. Only count trailer axles for articulated vehicles.

If you’re disabled

You don’t need to pay if you’re driving a vehicle that’s exempt from vehicle tax because you’re disabled.

Your vehicle will be checked automatically when you cross - you don’t need to do anything.

Local resident discount

You can apply for a discount if you live in Dartford or Thurrock. You can either:

  • pay £20 a year to use the Dartford Crossing as many times as you want
  • pay £10 for 50 crossings, plus 20p for each additional crossing

Fines

You can get a £70 fine if you don’t pay the charge. You must pay it within 28 days.

The fine will be:

  • reduced to £35 if you pay within 14 days
  • increased to £108 if you don’t pay it - you’ll also have to pay the crossing charge
