This call for proposals is for the Supporting Democracy, Inclusion and Peace in South Africa programme. The programme will contribute to:

  • reducing the risks of violence and exclusion in the 2024 South African elections, and
  • support the constructive engagement of accountability and oversight bodies with the Executive in the post-electoral period

The British High Commission in Pretoria is seeking a single or consortia of non-profit organisation(s) to provide activities of up to £700,000 between January to December 2024. Multilateral organisations are also eligible to apply. The selected organisation will receive grant funding.

What the programme will achieve

South Africa’s next elections are due in 2024. Civil society organisations and people play an important role in supporting the country to achieve inclusive and peaceful elections, as they have done for many years. They will continue to play an important role after the election. This project will support those in civil society with this role.

Using grant funding, the selected organisation or consortia will deliver 3 project outcomes:

  1. Pre-election: civil society complements and strengthens the efforts of electoral management bodies to achieve peaceful and inclusive elections in 2024.
  2. Post-election: oversight and accountability organisations and people are better able to engage constructively with the South Africa Executive.
  3. Improved availability of research, evidence and political economy analysis on governance and democracy issues.
