Public Interest Media and Healthy Information Environments (PIMHIE) programme

Closed: The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) invites not-for-profit organisations to submit proposals by 20 February 2024 to deliver this programme.

This call for proposals closed on 20 February 2024.

Overview

The FCDO invites organisations or consortia to deliver a programme to support the important role of public interest media and healthy information environments in open and inclusive societies.

The Public Interest Media and Healthy Information Environments (PIMHIE) programme will operate in 5 to 6 countries across the world, working closely with FCDO embassies and high commissions. The FCDO invites not-for-profit organisations, including civil society or research organisations, to submit proposals which meet the programme objectives.

What the fund will achieve

The programme has 2 main objectives:

  • support media organisations to deliver trustworthy public-interest content and enhance their resilience to the increasing challenges they face. These may include attacks, harassment, disinformation, and declining financial viability
  • support improvements in the enabling environment for information and media in programme countries. For example, laws, regulations and institutions which impact on the sector

The programme will work closely with UK embassies and high commissions abroad, ensuring that their diplomatic and development action complements the activities of the programme. Organisations wishing to apply should clearly set out in their proposals how they meet the programme objectives.
