Overview

CLARE is a partnership between the FCDO and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada.

What the fund will achieve

CLARE will support research to enable socially inclusive and sustainable action to build resilience to climate change and natural hazards across Africa and Asia-Pacific. The programme will place significant emphasis on getting knowledge and evidence into use, as well as on enabling the necessary diverse partnerships and support to strengthened agency in the Global South to do and use research for adaptation action.

Background information on the fund

We are looking for transdisciplinary teams motivated to conduct action-oriented research related to one or more of CLARE’s 3 research themes: 

1. Understanding climate risk 

Improving our understanding of the risks associated with climate and natural hazards that addresses gaps in the underpinning science.  

2. Risk-informed early action 

Improving risk-informed anticipatory action to reduce the humanitarian and extreme impacts of weather, climate variability and the compounding and cascading interaction of natural hazards. 

3. Developing in a changing climate 

Informing development in a changing climate; action that builds resilience in the present climate and adapts to the future climate.  

We expect to fund roughly 8 smaller projects and 8 larger projects from this call.
