TCM1000383 - How to enter the Connexions start and end date

Step 1

On the ‘Function Menu’

  • select ‘Application’ on the toolbar
  • select the ‘Change of Circumstances’ from the options available. You’ll be taken to the ‘Key Entry Data - Applicant’ screen
  • enter the customer’s NINO
  • select the ‘Latest’ checkbox
  • select ‘OK’.

If you are taken to either the ‘Select Household’ screen or ‘Select Application’ screen

  • select the relevant claim
  • select ‘OK’. You’ll be taken to the ‘Applicant Details’ screen
  • go to Step 2.

If you are taken straight to the ‘Applicant Details’ screen, go to Step 2.

Step 2

On the ‘Applicant Details’ screen

  • select ‘Ch’ on the toolbar. You’ll be taken to the ‘Child Details’ screen
  • select the child that the change relates to

If the child left full time non advanced education or approved training (FTNAE / AT) prior to the 1 September following their 16th birthday, go to Step 3.

If the child has not left FTNAE / AT prior to the 1 September following their 16th birthday, go to Step 4.

Step 3

On the ‘Child Details’ screen

  • select ‘Correction’. You’ll be taken to the ‘Correction Child’ screen
  • enter 01/09/YY (the applicable year) in the ‘Connexions Start Date’ field

Note: the correct start date will be the day after they left FTNAE / AT. However, as the tax credits computer is unable to accept a start date before 31 August following the young person’s 16th birthday, 01/09/YY must be used.

  • select ‘OK’ on the message
  • Calculate the end date as 20 weeks from the correct start date. For example, child left FTNAE / AT on 01/06/2011. CTC will automatically be paid until 31/08/2011. They registered with a qualifying body on 16/07/2011 and the CTC customer notified you of this on 23/07/2011. Use the day after they left FTNAE / AT, 02/06/2011, to calculate the 20 week run-on. The 20 week end date from 02/06/2011 will be 19/10/2011.
  • Enter the calculated end date in the ‘Connexions End Date’ field, typing over the date inserted by the tax credits computer

Step 4

On the ‘Child Details’ screen

  • select ‘Correction’. You’ll be taken to the ‘Correction Child’ screen
  • enter the day after the child left FTNAE / AT as the start date in the ‘Connexions Start Date’ field.

For example: The child is 17 and left education on 02/03/2011, they registered with a ‘qualifying body’ on 02/05/2011. You would enter the connexions start date as 03/03/2011.

Note: the tax credits computer will automatically calculate and populate the end date.

If you are trying to enter a further period of Connexions and the system is not recognising the latest period.

To calculate and apply the second period of Connexions you need to carry out the following steps.

  • apply the start date in the Connexions field and the end date should self populate (take note of the end date that the system self populates)
  • delete the start and end dates you have entered in the Connexions field for the second period of Connexions
  • in the FTNAE field you then apply the start date and tick the history tab to amend the include from date of the second period of Connexions, select ‘ok’ in the first box where you applied the start date of the second period of Connexions. You also need to apply an end date to the second period of Connexions with the date populated as above
  • apply the changes and add a retained household note stating that you have applied the second period of Connexions as FTNAE as a workaround (this note should never be deleted)

Note: You will need Auth S18 to apply changes if the changes are being backdated to a PY Tax year.
