TCM1000303 - How to check the date from which a child or young person is included in a pre-award claim

Step 1

On the ‘Function Menu’

  • select ‘Application’ on the toolbar
  • select ‘Capture Current’ from the options available. You will be taken to the ‘Key Entry Data’ screen
  • enter the customer’s NINO
  • select ‘OK’
  • on the toolbar select ‘Ch’ you will be taken to the ‘Children’ screen
  • highlight the child or young person
  • select ‘Edit’ on the top toolbar
  • select ‘Amend’ from the options, you will be taken to the ‘Amend Child Details’ screen.

If the child is under 16 or the child or young person is 16 and the effective date of the claim is before 1 September following their 16th birthday, go to Step 5.

If the young person is over 16 or the young person is 16 and the effective date of the claim is after 1 September following their 16th birthday, go to Step 2.

Step 2

Check the ‘Full Time Education’ check box.

If the box is ticked, go to Step 6.

If the box isn’t ticked, go to Step 3.

Step 3

Check if there is a date in the ‘Connexion Date’ field.

If there isn’t a Connexion date present, the young person will not be included in the claim for the purposes of awarding CTC.

If there is a Connexion date present, go to Step 4.

Step 4

Check if the date is 20 weeks or more before the effective date of the claim.

If the date is 20 weeks or more before the effective date of the claim, the young person will not be included in the claim for the purposes of awarding CTC.

If the date is less than 20 weeks before the effective date of the claim, go to Step 6.

Step 5

Check for a responsibility start date.

If there isn’t a responsibility start date, the child or young person will be included in the claim from the effective date of the claim or their date of birth, whichever is the most recent.

If there is a responsibility start date, the child or young person will be included in the claim from the responsibility start date or the effective date of the claim, whichever is the most recent.

Step 6

Check for a responsibility start date.

If there isn’t a responsibility start date, the young person will be included in the claim from the effective date of the claim.

If there is a responsibility start date, the young person will be included in the claim from the responsibility start date or the effective date of the claim whichever is the most recent.
