Specialist areas: Rapid Data Capture: Rapid Data Capture - exceptional claims - handling (Info)

Whilst scanning claim forms by Rapid Data Capture (RDC), certain claims will be identified that can’t be fully captured. These exceptions are where a claim

  • fails the minimum data set
  • contains more than eight critical errors.

The RDC computer will produce a list of all claims that fail the minimum data set or contain more than eight critical errors. The list will show the date the claim form was received.

Aspire staff at Netherton will separate the exceptions and forward them to the HMRC staff at Netherton.

Minimum data set exceptions

Where the reason for the exception is minimum data set

  • try to repair the exception and resubmit the claim for scanning

or, where you can’t repair it

  • return the claim to the customer (providing you have a full address)

or, as a last resort

  • discard the claim.

More than eight critical errors exceptions

Where the reason for the exception is more than eight critical errors, HMRC Netherton staff will manually capture the claim.
