Claims - requests: Taxable social security benefits (AG)

Background

A customer may contact you for assistance on how to complete the question on the claim form asking for details on taxable social security benefits.

You must tell the customer to contact the Social Security Department for the information.

Guidance

To deal with an enquiry regarding the amount of taxable social security benefits paid, consider steps 1 to 5.

Step 1

If contact is

by phone, go to Step 2.

in writing, go to Step 4.

Step 2

Verify the person you are speaking to. Follow the guidance in TCM0094120.

Step 3

When you are satisfied with who you are speaking to, tell them

  • what taxable social security benefits should be included on the claim form
  • to contact the Social Security Department for details of the benefits paid.

Step 4

Phone the customer. Follow the guidance in TCM0094080.

  • If contact is made by phone, use TCM0094120 to satisfy yourself that you are speaking to the correct person, and tell them

    • what taxable social security benefits should be included on the claim form
    • to contact the Social Security Department for details of the benefits paid.
  • If contact can’t be made by phone, go to Step 5.

If you are unable to make contact by phone write to the customer and tell them

  • what taxable social security benefits should be included on the claim form
  • to contact the Social Security Department for details of the benefits paid.
