Inheritance Tax: Sub-Threshold Cases - Lifetime

If it is clear that the chargeable value of the shares is not such as to cause the taxable limit to be exceeded, as noted at the fifth bullet point in SVM108070, the valuation may be concluded on that basis without agreeing a particular value. If there is any doubt about the extent of any other taxable property, we should check the position with the IHT caseworker before concluding the valuation on this basis. [For details of the IHT thresholds please see the HMRC Customer Guide to Inheritance Tax available on the HMRC Internet site.]
