PAYE103115 - Individual records: maintain individual details: material issued via Visually Impaired Media Unit

The Visually Impaired Media Unit (VIMU) provides information in alternative formats for individuals with impaired vision. They produce material in the following formats

  • By Audio
  • In Braille
  • In large print

When one of these special output indicators is set on the Indicator Details screen (PAYE103065), all system-generated output will be sent directly to the VIMU to be transformed into the specified special output before it is sent to the individual.

When you need to contact VIMU with a request for output to be converted to the required format you should e-mail them at VIMU (mailbox - VISUALLY IMPAIRED MEDIA UNIT, VIMU (PT Operations) with the following information

  • Full details of the individual, including name, address, tax reference number, NINO and telephone number (if known). Where the address is a correspondence address see ‘’Address’ at PAYE103025
  • If you are asking for letters, computations, calculations, P2 Notices of Coding or similar documents you will have to provide the original document (as an attachment to the e-mail) to convert to the required format (VIMU do not have access to customer records so you must provide the original document)
  • Individual’s preferred format - audio, Braille or large print
  • Your contact details

The completed material will be sent directly to the individual, so (if necessary) you should also send to VIMU using internal post

  • A return envelope (where the individual has to send something back to the local office)
    And / Or
  • Anything you want to go with the alternative format

Then

  • Make the following note in the Additional Notes box in the Indicators screen ‘All material should be referred to VIMU for conversion to (preferred format)’
