Individual records: maintain individual details: material requested in the Welsh language

The Welsh Language Unit is within Welsh Customer Service (WCS) and deals with both telephone and written enquiries from individuals who wish to deal with HMRC through their preferred language of Welsh. They also translate and despatch letters, forms and leaflets into Welsh.

If you receive a letter which is written in the Welsh language, the Welsh indicator is set or you are asked to set the Welsh special output indicator, you should send the correspondence immediately to

HMRC Welsh Customer Service (WCS)
Thedford House
High Street
Porthmadog
Gwynedd
LL49 9BF
Telephone 0300 200 1900

The advisors will respond to the letter, seeking additional technical advice from the relevant business area, as appropriate, and update the individuals PAYE record in English so that there is an audit trail of the actions taken as a result of the correspondence.

For more information on the Welsh Language Unit, you can visit the Welsh Language Service home page, or contact them by telephone on 0300 200 1900.
