AGL2635 - Operational assurance overview: Health and Safety: Safety clothing and equipment

Anyone who visits sites should ensure that the need or otherwise for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) has been assessed. All Departmental activities should be risk assessed and recorded on form RA2 - see AGL2625. If you are not aware of one existing, speak to your line manager - it is a legal requirement.

At the quarry, you should wear suitable clothing and the appropriate safety equipment (reinforced wellington boots, or better still steel-reinforced due to sharp stones on some sites, reflective jacket, safety glasses, hard hat and ear protectors, if appropriate).

Site owners have a duty to ensure that sites are safe and should supply PPE if it is required. This should be arranged prior to the visit.

More guidance on PPE, including assessing the need for it, where to get it from, and how to care for and maintain it, is available on the About You intranet site under Personal protective equipment.
