Youth Engagement Grant 2021 to 2022

Awarding the Youth Engagement Grant 2021 to 2022

Applies to England

The Youth Engagement Grant has now closed for applications. Applicants have been contacted directly regarding the outcome of their application and details of the funding awarded are published below.

About the fund

The objective of the Youth Engagement Grant is to support young people across England to participate in the development of policy affecting them, enabling more young people to have their voices heard and participate in decision making on a national policy level.

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) remains committed to funding this important opportunity, enabling young people to express their voices and be heard on issues that matter to them.

The previous grant funded the Youth Steering Group, Young Inspectors Group and Involved digital tool and was delivered by the British Youth Council since 2019. We have run an open grant competition for the remainder of the 2021/22 grant and invited organisations in England to apply for funding to deliver the grant from September 2021 to March 2022.

Grant award

Following a competitive application process, we are pleased to announce that the grant has been awarded to Shout Out UK (SOUK), working in collaboration with Young Voices Heard, Youth Politics UK, Votes for Schools, Opus and Redfield & Wilton Strategies. Shout Out UK was launched to embed political education in schools by bringing young people together to talk and learn about politics. SOUK is now a multi-award winning education platform and creative social enterprise that enables young people to engage in politics and have their voices heard.

SOUK will continue and build on the work already delivered by the British Youth Council under the previous Youth Voice Groups grant.

The Minister for Sport, Tourism, Heritage and Civil Society, Nigel Huddleston said:

We’re looking forward to working with Shout Out UK to deliver the Youth Engagement Grant, enabling more young people to be involved in the programme and have their voices heard. This grant continues to represent a key mechanism for supporting meaningful engagement between young people and decision makers at all levels and we remain committed to funding this activity.

Matteo Bergamini, CEO & Founder, Shout Out UK said:

The current climate has shown us all how politics impacts every single aspect of our lives and the reality is, if you don’t do politics, politics will do you. This is why we, at Shout Out UK, believe that every young person has the right to learn how our democracy functions and how to critically analyse the information they receive through political and media literacy education, ensuring they are empowered to have a say on the decisions that impact them. We couldn’t be more honoured to have been selected by DCMS to run this incredible initiative and are excited to work with the young people and ministers to ensure youth voice is embedded within national policymaking.
