Wild moorings
Wild Moorings offer the chance for owners of riverside properties to moor their own boat inline with their property, where the bank is Environment Agency-registered land
You may need to apply for a wild mooring on Environment Agency land, depending on the land type adjacent to the river:
- image 1,2 and 3 shows situations where Environment Agency land ownership extends from a fence line, road or flood bank across the river
- image 4 shows a situation where the land next to the river has a riparian owner

Where Environment Agency land ownership extends from a fence line, an application for a Wild Mooring on Environment Agency land requires an:
- Environmental Permit
- Wild Mooring Agreement from the EA to install a mooring
You may also need planning permission from your Local Authority.

Where Environment Agency land ownership extends from a flood bank, an application for a Wild Mooring on Environment Agency land requires an:
- Environmental Permit
- Wild Mooring Agreement from the EA to install a mooring

Where Environment Agency land ownership extends from road, an application for a Wild Mooring on Environment Agency land requires an:
- Environmental Permit
- Wild Mooring Agreement from the EA to install a mooring
You may also need planning permission from your Local Authority.
Riparian land ownership

You do not need to apply for an EA Wild Mooring Agreement on private land. An Environmental Permit is required from the EA to install a mooring structure in these circumstances. Planning permission may also be required from your Local Authority and permission from the land owner.
