  1. Round 2 of the Skills and Training scheme closed 19 May 2023. If you applied for round 2, Defra will contact you about the outcome of your application in July 2023.

  2. The closing date for round 2 applications has been extended to 19 May 2023.

  3. Updated the page with links to register and apply for round 2 funding on Atamis (Defra’s e-Tendering system).

  4. Applications are now open for round 2 of the Skills and Training Scheme. Details of how to apply are now available.

  5. Round 2 of the Skills and Training Scheme will open for applications in January 2023.

  6. Round 1 of the Skills and Training Scheme closed for applications on 12 October 2022.

  7. We have removed details of the online event as this has now passed. We have added an email address for questions relating to round 2 of the scheme.

Applications for round 2 of the Skills and Training scheme closed 19 May 2023. Defra has no plans to open any further rounds.

About the scheme

There is up to £10 million in funding available through the Skills and Training Scheme. The scheme will fund projects that improve the quality and range of training available for the catching, processing, aquaculture and recreational angling sectors.

The scheme has been split to provide:

  • funding for the creation of courses, qualifications and specialist training equipment in round 1
  • funding for training facilities in round 2
