Tuberculosis by country: rates per 100,000 people
Estimated rate of tuberculosis per 100,000 people, compiled from World Health Organization data for each country, for determining BCG and new-entrant eligibility.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) no longer publishes tuberculosis (TB) country data and instead supports direct access to the most current data directly from the World Health Organization (WHO) Global TB Programme website.
The purpose of the WHO country profiles data is to help:
- check which countries have a high incidence of TB
- decide whether to give a Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccination to infants or children who meet the criteria as recommended in the Immunisation against infectious disease, chapter 32 – tuberculosis
- decide who meets the criteria for new-entrant testing as part of the NHS England National latent tuberculosis infection testing and treatment programme
WHO TB country profiles and key facts are on a mobile app, compatible with Android and iOS and available from the Google or Apple store. Links to these can be found at the bottom of the WHO Global Tuberculosis Programme webpage.
How to use the WHO Global TB Programme website to determine BCG and new-entrant eligibility
-
Go to the World Health Organization (WHO) Global TB Programme website.
-
Select the country from the drop-down list.
-
Toggle to data table view.
-
Find the total TB incidence, rate per 100,000 in the top row of the ‘Estimates of TB burden’ table. This is the only number needed to determine BCG or new-entrant eligibility.
